A complete bandh observed in Chittorgarh over the release of ‘Padmavati’

Looks like problems for Sanjay Leela Bhansali and his film Padmavati has no signs of end. The movie has already faced several threats from the Rajputs. Despite Bhansali’s repeated assurances that the film, under no circumstance, will misrepresent history, these Hindu extremist groups continue to protest.

On Friday, ie November 3, hundreds of people reportedly took to the streets and blocked roads across Rajasthan’s Chittorgarh to protest against the highly anticipated film.

All schools, markets and medical shops were shut down as a part of the strike, backed by the Rajput Karni Sena. The protest march started from Maharana Pratap Chowk and ended at the Circuit House.

The protest was peaceful, the reason cited by the Rajput group was the upcoming film which they alleged showed Rani Padmini aka Padmavati in a bad light.

According to reports, the protesters allege that the film comprises love scenes between the Rajput Queen and Alauddin Khilji, essayed by Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh respectively.

‘Padmavati’ is based on Rani Padmini, the legendary Rajput queen of the kingdom of Chittorgarh, to be played by Deepika. It also features Shahid as her husband, king Rawal Ratan Singh, and probably the most impressive of them all – the invader Alauddin Khilji, essayed with sheer ferocity by Ranveer.

Directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, the film is slated to release on December 1.
