Padmavati controversy is getting murkier day by day. The period film padmavati is going through its roughest phases. Not only the movie, but the star cast is threatened to death.
The film which was earlier slated to release in December, but due to constant protest by Karni Sena, the film gets postponed.
Now if latest reports are to be believed, Central Board of Certification has asked the erstwhile Mewar royal family to join a panel to help it certify Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s period drama Padmavati.
Prasoon Joshi, the chief of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), called Vishvaraj Singh of the Mewar royal family on Thursday with the request.
Rajput Sena alleged that Sanjay Leela Bhansali has played with historical facts due to which they are constantly opposing the film.
Singh of the Mewar royal family spoke to a leading daily about the issue and said that he sought clarifications on certain aspects of the film that stars Deepika Padukone as queen Padmini, considered by Rajputs as a symbol of honour.
Vishvaraj Singh said he has written a letter to Joshi saying he will be able to accept or decline the offer only after some clarifications.
Vishvaraj Singh told the daily that he wrote to CBFC for clarifications on certain matters of the film. Singh said that he wrote an email to CBFC on November 11, 2017, and December 1, 2017, to clarify some doubts about the film. He said, “The emails were not acknowledged or replied to.”
Singh stated, “It has been reported to be a fantasy at some place and historical at others. We need clarity on under what genre the film is seeking certification. The reported involvement of historians in the process of certification so far establishes that the film is of historical relevance.”
Even the CBFC members reportedly had sent back the film to the producers as they didn’t film the column stating the film’s genre; whether it is a work of fiction or based on historical facts.
Vishvaraj Singh had written, “The film has used the name of my family’s respected ancestors and events that have taken place in history. It is not just the story but the depiction of characters that is of great importance. The song and promos released make it apparent that all claims of the filmmaker of giving due regard to cultural sensitivities ring hollow.”
He said that his family was not even consulted about Padmavati being made. Singh added, “The exercise of appointing a committee and the process of certification appears to be aimed at somehow lending credibility to a film, the released portions of which are found to be seriously objectionable by the very persons whose history and culture the film claims to showcase.”
Padmavati features Deepika in the lead playing the titular role of Rani Padmavati, Ranveer Singh and Alauddin Khilji and Shahid Kapoor as Maharwal Ratan Singh.
