A day after Gujarat government bans Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Padmaavat’, now Yogi Adityanath-led Uttar Pradesh government recently gave a green signal to a period drama starring Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor.
The Yogi Adityanath government said it would not stop the film’s release in Uttar Pradesh. Despite Karni Sena threatening to stall theatres screening Padmavat, UP government has given a green signal to the film so far.
After months of speculations, the film is passed by censor board with a U/A rating and the film will release on January 25.
Earlier, Rajasthan Government banned its release in the states.
Padmavat has been surrounded by controversies right from the very beginning as right-wing Hindu and Rajput groups objected to the release of the movie. They called Padmavat a distortion of historical facts and an insult to Rajput traditions and culture.
Starring Deepika Padukone with Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor in key roles, the magnum opus tells the tale of Rani Padmavati, the legendary Mewar queen known for her beauty and intelligence as well as courage, her husband Maharawal Ratan Singh, a Rajput warrior king who fought to defend his kingdom and wife’s honour, and Sultan Alauddin Khilji.
