Mahesh Babu’s multiplex violated GST norms, served notice

Tollywood actor Mahesh Babu’s multiplex theatre AMB Cinemas in Kondapur, Telangana received a show-cause notice from Ranga Reddy district GST Commissionerate anti-profiteering wing for the violation of GST norms.

 Reportedly, the multiplex was selling tickets at higher rates, which are not in accordance with revised GST norms.

Starting January 1, the GST Council had said that tickets worth Rs 100 and above would fall in the 18% tax bracket instead of the earlier 28% while for tickets less than Rs 100, it would fall in the 12% tax bracket instead of the earlier 18%.

Meanwhile, similar notices were issued to the managements of other multiplexes and single-screen cinema theatres that indulged in GST violations in Hyderabad and Secunderabad.

Asian Mahesh Babu Cinemas is a joint venture of Mahesh Babu and leading distribution company called Asian Group. The multiplex opened in December last year.

The posh movie hall is located at a prime hub in Hyderabad city. According to reports, apart from the latest technology and equipment, AMB Cinemas has a stunning lounge for patrons. Mahesh Babu is said to have a holding of around 20% share in the venture.
