International Women’s Day is celebrated on March 8 every year. There are a lot of ways to celebrate this special day but the most popular of them is to watch a Bollywood movie with all the ladies in your life whom you want to make special. Our industry has given us a lot of movies that are women-centric and celebrate the courage, talent and power of the women. So, today on the occasion of Women’s Day, checkout the list of female centric bollywood films which will leave you inspired.

Kangana Ranaut starrer Queen is about an under-confident Punjabi girl from New Delhi, who takes off on her honeymoon to Paris and Amsterdam, all by herself after her fiancé (Rajkummar Rao) calls off their wedding. It’s this journey that teaches her to be self-reliant and confident. In short, it changes her life forever. The film has been helmed by Vikas Bahl and produced by Anurag Kashyap, Vikramaditya Motwane, and Madhu Mantena.

2. Pink

Pink told the nation that when a woman says ‘No’ it means ‘No’. No matter what clothes she wears or what lifestyle she leads, she can’t be forced into doing anything against her will. Amitabh Bachchan plays an advocate who fights for the girls entrapped in a legal battle against notorious boys belonging to influential families.

3. Raazi

The film is an adaptation of Harinder Sikka’s 2008 novel Calling Sehmat, a true account of an Indian Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) agent who, upon her father’s request, is married into a Pakistani family of military officials to relay information to India, prior to the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971.

4. MOM

Sridevi starrer MOM released in 2017. The actress plays the role of Devki Sabarwal in the film who crosses all the limits to get revenge for her daughter’s sexual misconduct and herself becomes a murderer.

5. English Vinglish

English Vinglish is a 2012 Indian comedy-drama film, written and directed by Gauri Shinde. The narrative revolves around a woman named Shashi (Sridevi), a small entrepreneur who makes snacks. Shashi enrolls in an English-speaking course to stop her husband and daughter mocking her lack of English skills and gains self-respect in the process.

6. Veere Di Wedding

The film revolves around the life of four friends Kareena Kapoor, Sonam Kapoor, Swara Bhasker and Shikha Talsania. They all have some sort of problems in life. The film focuses on the struggle a woman faces while adjusting to the new lifestyle leaving aside her carefree life.

7. Kahaani

Sujoy Ghosh’s directed film Kahaani is all about a seven-month pregnant woman (Vidya Balan) who comes alone to Kolkata from London in search of her husband. The movie deals with a language barrier, the chaos and poverty of the metropolis during her brief stay in Kolkata. It also shows the warmth of the people of Kolkata shown to her.

8. Mardaani 

Mardaani is the story of a female cop, Shivani Roy. It’s played by Rani Mukerji who fights the kingpin of organised crimes involving child trafficking and drugs. It shows how the lady officer fights woman trafficking in the city.

9. No One Killed Jessica

This film is based on the real life story of Jessica Lal murder case. It’s a tale of how Jessica’s elder sister, Sabrina Lal played by Vidya Balan fights the wealthy and influential man who shot her sister. Rani Mukerji plays the gritty journalist who helps Vidya Balan fight against all odds. The film shows that even a common woman can rise above all odds and fight for justice. The film is directed by Rajkumar Gupta.

10. Mary Kom

Mary Kom is true life story of the Indian boxer who won India great accolades internationally. Priyanka Chopra plays the real life character on the big screen beautifully depicting Kom’s story. It is special because of the hardships Kom had to go through through her career. She makes a comeback post her marriage, and a mother of two Kom continues her successful journey against all odds.

11. Neerja

Based on a true story the biographical thriller features Sonam Kapoor in the title character, who is a flight attendant. On a regular day to work, when she boards Pan Am 73, a Libya sponsored terrorist group hijacks the plane in Karachi. Neerja ruins the hijackers plan and manages to save 359 of the 379 passengers and crew on board. Neerja Bhanot has been posthumously awarded the Ashoka Chakra and she is the youngest person to be felicitated with it.

12. Lipstick Under My Burkha

Set in a small town in India, ‘Lipstick Under My Burkha’, features the story of four women who are in search of a little freedom. The four women are – a burkha-clad college girl who aspires to be a pop singer, a young beautician, a housewife and a 55-year-old widow. These four women on a journey to rediscover freedom and happiness.
