Hackers blackmail Deepti Naval using internet browsing history, demands Rs 4 lakh in bitcoin!

Bollywood actress Deepti Naval who is known for her films like Chashme Buddoor (1981), Shriman Shrimati (1982) has recently received a malware scam email threatening to publicise her interest browsing history and demanding USD 5,600 in bitcoin—nearly 0.74 bitcoin or Rs 3.9 lakh within 24 hours.

Deepti approached the police on Wednesday when she received a mail which contained her email’s username and password, the report added. The person who sent the mail claimed to have had videos of her browsing certain sites.

While talking to TOI, Deepti said, “I do not want to talk anything about it. I am relaxed now. The cops told that the mail that I have received is a trash mail and asked me to ignore it.”

Police are taking the help of the cyber crime cell to track the server from where the mail was sent. Cyber crime expert and investigator Ritesh Bhatia said he too had received a similar mail on July 25 demanding $3,000 in bitcoin and told the leading daily, “I ignored the mail as I know it is fake. In the past two weeks, I have received over 20 calls from victims, but no one wants to approach the cops… Scammers don’t have any video or pictures of you… Just because they have emailed you your correct username and password, does not mean they have compromised your device.”

Meanwhile, state cyber crime cell superintendent of police Balsing Rajput said that in the last four days they have received at least nine calls complaining about similar threats. “Guidance and support has been provided to them,” he said.
