After the success of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmaavat, now Deepika Padukone is all set for her next. Yes, if reports are to be believed, Deepika has collaborated with ace director Meghna Gulzar for her next film.
If reports are to be believed, Deepika will portray the character of acid survivor, Laxmi Agarwal.
While speaking to Mumbai Mirror the actress spoke about Laxmi and said, “When I heard this story, I was deeply moved as it’s not just one of violence but of strength and courage, hope and victory. It made such an impact on me, that personally and creatively, I needed to go beyond and so the decision to turn producer.”
Director Meghna Gulzar revealed, why she chooses Deepika for playing the role, she said, “It is both an emotionally and physically challenging role to play. I was instinctively convinced that Deepika can do justice to the character and the story. Also, her physicality matched what I had imagined for the character of Laxmi. I am grateful and feel extremely encouraged that Deepika was so spontaneous in her decision to do this film. Also, when you take a face as beautiful as hers, and portray it as an Acid survivor, the magnitude of the violence and damage is that much more resounding.”
Well, talking about Laxmi Agarwal, so, she was attacked in 2005 at age 15, by a 32-year-old man, who had one-sided attraction towards her. She now runs an NGO that works for the acid attack survivors and is also a proud owner of a cafe which is managed by these survivors.
