Advoate Subhash Jadhav, Dutt’s lawyer, said there was a communication lapse earlier that led to his non-appearance in the court and that the actor would be represented for all future dates in a private complaint filed by a film producer against him.

The case relates to a movie called ‘Jaan ki Baazi’ being produced by Shakeel Noorani. Last Saturday, non-appearance in court resulted in a bailable warrant against the actor after Noorani’s lawyer applied for a non-bailable warrant to ensure his presence. A metropolitan magistrate in Andheri had earlier issued summons for Dutt to appear.

Noorani’s lawyer Neeraj Gupta had contended that after his release from prison last February, Dutt did not appear in court on the “last four dates,” The magistrate, however, had issued a bailable warrant and posted the matter next on August 29.

The complaint by Noorani alleged that he received threats from the underworld at Dutt’s behest. Noorani’s case was that he was making the film ‘Jaan Ki Baazi’ for which Dutt, after taking initial signing amount of Rs 50 lakh, shot for only two days and then did not appear. The complaint against Dutt is of alleged criminal intimidation with threats under section 506(II) of Indian Penal Code, an offence that attracts a punishment of up to seven years in jail. The actor had denied receiving any amount and the criminal allegations.

Dutt, who was convicted under the Arms Act in the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts case, was released from the jail last year. Currently, he is busy in shooting of his comeback film “Bhoomi”.
