Veteran Bollywood actor Shyama passed away on the morning of November 14 at the age of 82. Shyama acted in more than 175 films in a career spanning four decades.
Some of her memorable roles were in movies such as Aar Paar, Barsaat Ki Raat, Sawan Bhadon, Milan and Sharada, for which she won the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress in 1957.
She was given the name Shyama by director Vijay Bhatt. She was also awarded the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor for the film Sharda.
Shyama got married to cinematographer Fali Mistry in 1953 and the couple had two sons and a daughter.
When mid-day contacted Nasir Khan, the son of actor Johnny Walker, he expressed his grief on Shyama’s demise. “It’s really disheartening to know about the demise of Shyama aunty, one of are the most beautiful actresses of her time. She had done several films with my father and in a lot of them she was opposite him also. In fact, in the film that was made on his name ‘Johnny Walker’, she was the heroine with him. Her daughter Shirin and I have known each other since we were kids. My heartfelt condolences to her and the family and may Allah give her the strength through this trying times,” Nasir said.
May her soul rest in peace!
