Running Shaadi, previously known as Runningshaadi.com but not anymore because matrimonial site Shaadi.com approached Bombay High Court protesting against the title, is a film that is great in patches but is mostly just about okay.

Running Shaadi

Story of the Movie:

The story of Running Shaadi involves Ram Bharose (Amit Sadh) and Nimmi (Taapsee Pannu), a boy and girl who grow up together in Punjab and after a fallout with his boss, Ram joins hands with his friend ‘Cyberjeet’ (the excellent Arsh Bajwa) to start a website called Runningshaadi.com that organises all that an everyday eloping couple from India would need. Nimmi joins the duo but soon enough the romantic tension between her and Ram takes the story through unexpected turns.

Direction of the film:

Debutant director Amit Roy, who has previously been a cinematographer for Ram Gopal Varma’s very uniquely-shot movies such as the Sarkar films, Nishabd and Rann, has the potential to make a great second film. The film starts shifting its locations from Punjab to Dalhousie to Patna, it starts to deteriorate further. The film can be seenstray from the rhythm. The screenplay seems quite weak.

Star Performance

Running Shaadi

Amit Sadh: Amit Sadh as the ambitious and resourceful Ram Bharose gives a career-defining performance as the lead. He gives a measured performance in the film. He is so good. Hopefully, he gets noticed in Running Shaadi for all his worth.

Taapsee Pannu: Taapsee Pannu sparkles as the spunky Nimmi in this film. She fabulously carries her character who is known to take charge when it comes to finding her happiness. Taapsee gets a very tricky, complicated character, Nimmi and she justify her character.

Music of the film: one thing that doesn’t quite go well with the entire vibe of the film is its music. The music doesn’t add up to the storyline and feels forced at a point. Despite roping in one of the most breezy music-director like Anupam Roy, the film’s narrative fails to make the music inclusive of the narrative.

Final Verdict: Overall, despite few hiccups, the entire good vibe and vibrant nature of Running Shaadi makes it a worthy watch this weekend. Just go for this easy-breezy film and come out with a smile or a plan of elopement during a wedding.
